Eden Laser Clinics follows the treatment journey of Belinda, a patient who is having a Deep Sea Chemical Peel at our Sans Souci Clinic.
Belinda credits the Deep Sea Peel to leaving her with beautifully glowing and clear skin and recommended the treatment a few weeks prior to a big event if you want your skin looking it’s absolute best. Belinda received lots of compliments about her skin post the treatment and said the 15mins of pain was definitely worth going through for the final result!
We find out the ins and outs of the treatment itself, what to expect at your treatment and how you can maximise your results!
2 Weeks Prior to the Treatment
I was advised by my skin therapist to prep my skin for the peel. I used a product called Simply Brilliant in the morning, and Define at night. This ensures that my skin becomes tolerant to high potency product before diving head first into the peel itself.
Day of Treatment
My skin therapist cleanses my skin twice using 2 different cleansers. Once for my make-up and the other to make sure it is squeaky clean.
She then used a “peel prep” which takes your breath away! Literally!
It is an alcohol based solution which removes the oil on the surface. Throughout this process, my skin therapist kept asking how my skin was feeling. This tests your skins barrier function. If this test fails, you cannot proceed with the peel, and may have to look for other alternatives.
As my skin barrier test passed, I was given the ok to proceed with the treatment.
The face is split into 3 areas, forehead, cheeks and chin, nose and upper lip. Each area is treated one by one.
She started with my forehead, then my cheeks and chin, then my nose and upper lip.
The treatment process involves massaging the product into the skin constantly until the client has reached their peak of their pain threshold, or until 5-7mins is up.
I consider myself to have a high pain tolerance, although this treatment seemed to question that! I lasted 3mins, and as each area was being massaged, I felt as though the time was shorter, as my tolerance was wearing quite thin.
After the massaging finished, my therapist had to remove the peel. The cold water felt amazing, but it was also very painful!
Finally it came to the end of the treatment where she had to apply Rescue + balm. This aids in the skin’s healing process.
I left the clinic looking like I had fallen asleep in the blistering sun for hours and hours, it also felt that way!
She offered to apply some mineral make-up to help hide some of the redness, but I didn’t want my skin touched.
It felt like anything that made contact to my skin, even my own fingers, was like a bed of nails being stabbed into my face. This sensation lasted for 24hrs post treatment.

I could not get any shut eye the night of the treatment. Unless you sleep on your back, whereby your cushion won’t have any contact with your face, then you will sleep. Me on the other hand, nothing!
My skin felt very tight and sunburnt.
My skin therapist recommended me to use specific post treatment products until the peeling process had ended. This could be 7-14 days depending on the health of your skin.
Mine lasted 6 days.
I cleansed with Aspect Dr Mild Clean Cleanser. (Keep in mind, the prickling sensation was still there, so I used a very light circular motion, with lukewarm water.)
I then applied Rescue+ Balm and SPF. If you wish to use make-up, opt for a mineral range to avoid congestion and breakout. I used Jane Iredale.
My therapist recommended me to have a LED treatment the following day to help with the healing. It is not something that is necessary, but it definitely helped me.
I had the LED treatment which reduced the redness dramatically.
My peeling has started!!!
Areas of my face became very itchy. My jawline and forehead was the worst.
I could feel the skin starting to shed.
My skin was coming off in sheets. Amazing! So to avoid my skin falling everywhere, I was keeping my skin hydrated and moist by applying my moisturiser as often as possible. I found that if I didn’t apply every few hours, I could feel the tightness, so I knew I needed it.
I started wearing Aspect Gold Probiotic Mask to bed. It is a rich face mask that helps to comfort, hydrate and heal the skin. It is designed to be slept in, which was a bonus especially as my life is very busy.
I can definitely say that this mask was a lifesaver!
Day 4 through to Day 6
My skin continued to peel, but not as dramatic as day 3. It was more like having patches of dry skin in different areas.
I could wear make-up, and by about day 6, I was able to switch over to my normal products and continue with my normal routine.
I have received so many compliments that my skin is glowing and looks very clear.
Definitely going back for round 2!
Shards of glass being scratched along the skin is not an ideal skin treatment, and it is definitely NOT a relaxing treatment, but the results do justify the 15mins of pain that you endure.
