All set to beat the winter blues and welcome the sunshine? The Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival will have you wishing back autumn and winter just so you can try out the latest fashion trends for the next winter!
Kickstarting the opening night was the David Jones fashion ambassador, Jessica Gomez in a sleek white Dion Lee cape. The one word to describe her – awesome! With long sleeves and a plunging neckline, the frock looked just perfect as it showed off her slender frame to the very best.
The rest of the night was as dramatic, with the whole scene set in a fairytale forest with smoky scenery and dim lighting that created a mysterious winter wonderland effect. It added to the cool ambience and set the right tone for the fashion show. The entire show was a flurry of sophisticated and cleverly layered designs. The layers did justice to keeping with the sleek style and flaunting slim bodies. Old time collections of Zimmermann, Bianca Spender, Scanlan, Esber and Lover were cleverly edited to create the new designs that were carried to glory by top models like Jessica, Montana Cox and Cheyenne Tozzi.
Bold and colorful prints are making a major comeback this winter and so are wide-leg trousers and oversized sweaters. Keeping in tune with the desire to not be entirely wrapped up in fabric, the designers have created innovative designs to show flesh. Back cut-outs, translucent panels and lace were all visible throughout the runway that night. Brighter bursts of colors like ruby, cobalt and saphire were seen in small and large prints making designs bolder and more beautiful. Dion Lee, Hugo Boss, Ginger and Smart, Bianca Spender and Scanlan have based their winter line around these richer colors while showcasing black and neutrals with due prominence too. Winter isn’t complete without white and this color made it’s way into most ensembles and designs ranging from frocks to tweed coats and sheer fabric trousers.
Animal prints in big and small sizes are still in focus this year. The master designers brought new trends to the runway that make every fashion enthusiast crave for more. Chunky knits and tweed coats were largely in the spotlight with the likes of Willow, Jack and Jack, Victoria and Lover. Silk kaftans and maxi dresses made their entry with Camilla. Exquisite designs were woven by Thurley in smooth flowing and detailed gowns while frills and prints were the signature style of Romance was Born.
This winter will be all about color and radiance. Cropped tops and pants are to stay while bold blues and oranges compete with rich luxurious greys and whites for space. Bidding adieu to the skinny leg designs, the fashion trend next season would favour more straight cut trousers and bouncy harem pants. The designs are less clingy, but more stylish. The entire look of this festival was rich and colorful with bold and youthful vibes. These collections make their way to Sydney next winter and provide ample scope to indulge in nautical and mystical, formal and fun fashion for every runway enthusiast. With animal prints, metallics, florals and bold colors there is something for everyone’s taste in this collection.
